Leo Daedalus, self confessed ludic subversive, is Oregon Cartoon Institute’s artist in residence during the 2013 Harry Smith PDX project.

Leo’s first tour of duty will be to host the Harry Smith Free For All at The Cleaners in downtown Portland on May 19, 2013. A five hour marathon!  Can one man contain the chaos of seven speakers, two dozen singers, and who knows how many paper airplanes?

Come and find out.

Also! During the Free For All‘s 2:30 – 3:00 PM time slot, Leo will remove his “host” hat, and become a presenter. His presentation will address Harry Smith’s unpredictable relationship to the concept of “truth”.

More information about Leo can be found here.

Carye Bye signaled her early support of Oregon Cartoon Institute by donating the magnificent series of pen & ink portraits which has become our trademark. Carye’s portrait of Harry Smith can be seen on the homepage of this website, and you might have seen her portrait of Mel Blanc, which was postered all over Portland during the 2011 Mel Blanc Project.

The nine historic Oregon animation and cartooning figures which Carye drew are Homer Davenport, Pinto Colvig, Carl Barks, Mel Blanc, Basil Wolverton, Marc Davis, Ralph Wright, George Bruns and Harry Smith.

Carye is an artist and a printer based in Portland , Oregon. Her Red Bat Press occasionally holds open houses where you can get the tour of her one room facility and take a turn manning her hand powered press. Carye also leads Hidden Portland For The Curious tours as theMuseum Lady. If you are lucky, someday you will catch her own Bathtub Museum when it is open.

For Harry Smith PDX, Carye is creating a poster sized Handy Guide To Harry Smith. Heaven knows, we need one!
