R. Crumb

2011

Oregon Cartoon Institute partnered with filmmaker Karl Lind to create a seven minute educational video highlighting two Oregon artists whose work directly influenced underground cartoonist Robert Crumb. We created this video to supplement Portland Art Museum’s exhibit of R. Crumb’s Genesis. In it, Patrick Rosenkranz and Charles Boucher interview each other about Basil Wolverton (Central Point) and Carl Barks (Merrill). Crumb has consistently cited these two artists as inspirations throughout his career. In fact, Crumb’s interest in illustrating the Book Of Genesis was inspired by Basil Wolverton’s decision to do the same in Story Of Man.
